The Spotted Eagle Ray is a member <\/span>of the ray family! \u00a0It\u00a0<\/span>is identified by its <\/span>distinctive white spots and <\/span>unique duck-like snout. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Eagle Ray is found in <\/span>tropical waters including <\/span>those around the island of Bermuda. \u00a0When you use our NORTH AMERICA<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0map, be sure to have your students label this island. \u00a0(For more about NORTH AMERICA– see our FREE digital “Map Challenge”\u00a0<\/strong>about the continent!)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The tail of this ray can be up to 20 feet long, <\/span>with venomous spines! \u00a0<\/span>This tail can be used as a weapon <\/span>against predators.<\/span><\/p>\n

One thing that makes this <\/span>sea creature unique is that it <\/span>can leap out of the water. \u00a0<\/span>There have been occasions where <\/span>the Spotted Eagle Ray <\/span>has accidentally landed on a boat!<\/span><\/p>\n

OTHER BERMUDIAN CREATURES!<\/h2>\n

The Islands of Bermuda<\/b> is the official name of this British Territory that is in the Atlantic Ocean, and considered part of the continent of NORTH AMERICA.\u00a0 <\/span>Bermuda is off the coast of the United Stated, about 640 miles away from Cape Hatteras in North Carolina.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the Spotted Eagle Ray, Bermuda is home to many other interesting creatures on land and water. \u00a0The diamondback Terrapin is a longstanding member of the flora and fauna of this island. \u00a0It is said to pre-date the arrival of humans to Bermuda and the others that make up its archipelago.<\/p>\n

The Bermuda rock skink is a kind of lizard that\u00a0is wild only on the island of Bermuda. \u00a0It likes to live among the rocks along the coast where it can feed on crustaceans and small insects.<\/p>\n
