16&#8243; X 20&#8243;<\/strong> <\/a>&#8212; shows the outlines of all the continents, with Antarctica shown separately in an inset. \u00a0Students label continents first. \u00a0This is easy to do. \u00a0At the same time they can see the location of the continents to each other. \u00a0This map, found <a href=\"http:\/\/mapofthemonth.com\/site\/products\/continents-of-the-world-map\/\">HERE<\/a>, was designed with grades 1-6 in mind, but higher grades have found this map useful as well.<\/p>\n<h2>LARGER CONTINENT DETAILS<\/h2>\n<p>Next they move on to label the major bodies of water, which are the major oceans and seas. \u00a0At the same time, students can shade in blue around the continents to show the coastlines of the areas of land.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-better.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15793 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-better-1024x820.jpg\" alt=\"CONTINENTS small better\" width=\"1024\" height=\"820\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-better-1024x820.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-better-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-better-500x401.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-better-100x80.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-better-150x120.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students can draw in a major river on each continent. \u00a0Then they\u00a0understand that a river a different kind of body of water than an ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing in the major mountain ranges, like the Rockies, on each continent is easy. \u00a0<strong>Students begin to see that continents have\u00a0topography that varies from one area to another. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For example, now it is easy to see that the Andes run along the wester side of the continent of South America. \u00a0They can also see that the Amazon River is central and east in the northern part of the South American continent.<\/p>\n<p>They can see the Mississippi River (<strong>see our FREE file about this famous river <a href=\"http:\/\/mapofthemonth.com\/site\/cartocraze-2\/#rivers\">HERE<\/a>!<\/strong>) runs from north to south in North America, with its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico.<\/p>\n<h2>OTHER IMPORTANT LINES<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-brochure.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15792 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-brochure-1024x818.jpg\" alt=\"CONTINENTS small brochure\" width=\"1024\" height=\"818\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-brochure-1024x818.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-brochure-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-brochure-500x399.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-brochure-100x80.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.mapofthemonth.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CONTINENTS-small-brochure-150x120.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When introducing lines of latitude and longitude, why not start with the easiest ones to remember? \u00a0Learning and drawing in some\u00a0simple lines gives them a reference point for learning more about\u00a0latitude and longitude lines later.<\/p>\n<p>They can see that the PRIME MERIDIAN runs through the continents of Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing in the EQUATOR allows them to see the areas on earth that have the warmest temperatures. \u00a0<strong>This is a useful introduction to the concept of CLIMATE.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By drawing in the lines for the TROPIC OF CANCER and the TROPIC OF CAPRICORN, students <strong>become aware of the term HEMISPHERE for the first time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>SIMPLE &#8212; BUT A LOT IS LEARNED!<\/h2>\n<h3>Allow your students to learn &#8212; as well as prepare!&#8211; when\u00a0using a hands-on map like this <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mapofthemonth.com\/site\/products\/continents-of-the-world-map\/\">CONTINENTS map<\/a><\/strong> that is simple yet detailed.<\/h3>\n<p>First, they get a strong overview of the major landforms and bodies of water that make up their planet EARTH.<\/p>\n<p>Then they add in some details about topography &#8212;
