Kangaroos, rainforest, coral reefs, boomerangs! \u00a0Uluru, native Aboriginal people, deserts and plains! \u00a0Great populated \u00a0cities. \u00a0Vast spaces empty of humans. \u00a0And EMUS and WALLABIES! \u00a0 All of these things come to mind when we think of the continent of AUSTRALIA! \u00a0Our map of Australia, paired with our free MAP CHALLENGE, gives students a way to really learn about this continent!<\/p>\n

Australia Map Challenge!<\/h3>\n

When you use our AUSTRALIA activity map in your classroom, use our free\u00a0MAP CHALLENGE<\/a> digital file as\u00a0a workshop. \u00a0The file can be used with your classroom whiteboard. \u00a0 It will take you and your students \u00a0through the labeling of this map in detail! \u00a0When you start out, the black and white map is blank. When you are done, it is a colorful work of cartographic art! \u00a0Every student will create a unique completed version of the map.<\/p>\n

Do your students know about OCEANIA<\/a> and Australia\u2019s relationship to this area of Earth? \u00a0 Many\u00a0<\/i>use the term OCEANIA to refer to the region that includes Australia as well as the island countries that surround it. \u00a0View our digital MAP CHALLENGE<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0your Smart board or projector. \u00a0The file offers information about this area and activities about the surrounding islands.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, your students will learn about the varied topography of the continent. \u00a0There are special activities about deserts, plains, coastlines, and rain forests. \u00a0They will be prompted to\u00a0write about them. \u00a0The Great Barrier Reef is one of Earth\u2019s most notable features! \u00a0And the Great Dividing Range is\u00a0especially impressive. \u00a0 Much of its area has been untouched by modern civilization. \u00a0It offers beautiful views of the natural world. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How can we forget ULURU<\/a>? \u00a0It is shown in our opening photo and below. \u00a0 This large rock is\u00a0<\/span>over 1,000 feet tall and over a mile wide, over 2 miles long. \u00a0<\/span>It is thought that Uluru is over 600 million years old!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students also have a chance to learn about another large neighboring island named\u00a0Tasmania! \u00a0(Did you know that <\/span>TASMANIA\u2019s nickname is \u201cTassie\u201d?)<\/span><\/p>\n

Add in some information about coral reefs and endangered animals (Numbats<\/a> and Wombats<\/a>!). \u00a0 There are many things to learn as the map activities are \u00a0completed . \u00a0 The specialties of Australian foods are presented. \u00a0Do your students know about the sweet treat called Fairy Bread? \u00a0They will enjoy learning about leisure activities that are unique to\u00a0Australia.<\/p>\n
