Kangaroos, rainforest, coral reefs, boomerangs. \u00a0 Uluru, native Aboriginal people, deserts and plains. \u00a0Great populated cities and vast spaces empty of humans. \u00a0And EMUS and WALLABIES! \u00a0 All of these things come to mind when we think of the continent of AUSTRALIA which is also a country<\/a>!<\/p>\n

When you use our AUSTRALIA activity map<\/a> in your classroom, use our FREE\u00a0MAP CHALLENGE<\/a> digital file as\u00a0a workshop. \u00a0This free file can be used with your whiteboard or projector. \u00a0 It will take you and your students \u00a0through the labeling of this map in detail!<\/p>\n

When you start out, the black and white map is blank. When you are done, it is a colorful work of cartographic art! Every student will create a unique completed version of the map<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Do your students know about OCEANIA and Australia’s relationship to this area of Earth? \u00a0 Many\u00a0<\/i>use the term OCEANIA<\/a> to refer to the region that includes Australia as well as the island countries that surround it. \u00a0View our digital MAP CHALLENGE<\/a> with\u00a0your Smart board or projector: it offers information about this area and activities about the surrounding islands.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, your students will learn about the varied topography of the continent. \u00a0 The file includes\u00a0special activities about deserts, plains, coastlines, and rain forests. \u00a0 And students will be prompted to\u00a0write about them. \u00a0The Great Barrier Reef is one of Earth’s most notable features! \u00a0The Great Dividing Range is\u00a0especially impressive because much of its area has been untouched by modern civilization. \u00a0It offers beautiful views of the natural world. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How can we forget ULURU (shown in our opening photo and below)? \u00a0 This large rock\u00a0<\/span>over 1,000 feet tall, over a mile wide, and over 2 miles long. \u00a0<\/span>It is thought that Uluru is over 600 million years old!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students also have a chance to learn about another large neighboring island named\u00a0Tasmania! \u00a0(Did you know that <\/span>TASMANIA\u2019s nickname is \u201cTassie\u201d?)<\/span><\/p>\n

Add in some information about coral reefs and endangered animals, namely Numbats and Wombats!. \u00a0 There are many things to learn as the map activities are \u00a0completed . \u00a0 The specialties of Australian foods are presented! \u00a0Do your students know about the sweet treat called Fairy Bread? \u00a0Leisure activities that are unique to this large island continent<\/a> are included.<\/p>\n

Plenty of reading and writing exercises are part of the file as well. \u00a0Literacy and writing are emphasized in our\u00a0MAP CHALLENGE<\/a>S.<\/p>\n
